Every
day, the quality of life in Iowa is enhanced by the educational
opportunities, research and scholarship, and service of the state's
three public universities – the University of Iowa, Iowa State
University, and the University of Northern Iowa – and two special
K-12 schools – the Iowa School for the Deaf and the Iowa Braille and
Sight Saving School. These institutions are governed by the Board of
Regents, a group of nine citizen volunteers appointed by Iowa's
Governor to provide policymaking, coordination, and oversight of the
institutions and affiliated centers.
